A Journey to Success: Braxton’s Story with Indiana Gateway Digital Academy
In 2020, amidst the pandemic’s upheaval, the H Family relocated from southern Indiana to central Indiana in search of better opportunities. Along with this transition came the challenge of finding the right educational fit for Braxton, a young boy who struggled to thrive in his traditional brick-and-mortar school. Their journey ultimately led them to Indiana Gateway Digital Academy (INGDA), a decision that transformed Braxton’s educational experience.
The Challenges of Traditional Schooling
Braxton’s early experience in elementary school began on a high note, but it quickly became evident that his needs weren’t being fully met. Despite having a specialized education plan, it wasn’t being implemented effectively. He struggled with reading comprehension and often felt marginalized as he was pulled out of class for testing, missing recess and key social interactions. These challenges took a toll on both his academic performance and his confidence.
Discovering Indiana Gateway Digital Academy
A turning point came when a family friend recommended Indiana Gateway Digital Academy (INGDA), an online school that had made a difference for her own child. Within just two weeks of enrolling at INGDA, Braxton’s transformation began. He moved from failing grades to consistent academic success, maintaining straight As, and earning 100% in all of his classes in 2023.
One of the most significant changes was Braxton’s growing confidence. Naturally shy and reserved, he rarely put himself forward socially. However, with the encouragement and support of INGDA’s teachers, especially Mrs. Clifton, Braxton stepped out of his comfort zone. Twice in one year, he delivered presentations to his classmates, complete with quizzes that he designed himself—demonstrating how he’s applying his education and how he’s helping his peers. This newfound confidence and leadership are a testament to the personalized support he receives from his educators.
Tailored Support for Individual Needs
INGDA has been instrumental in addressing Braxton’s education needs alongside his learning challenges. His resource teacher, Mr. Brake, works closely with the family to create a tailored learning plan that supports Braxton’s academic success. In January, Braxton is set to explore the school’s flex program, a hybrid model that blends online and in-person learning, as part of ongoing efforts to find the best fit for his educational needs.
The school’s flexibility has also been crucial for the family during challenging times. In April 2023, Braxton’s mother suffered a stroke, yet the adaptive scheduling and Class Connect sessions allowed him to continue his studies without disruption, providing stability during a difficult period.
What Sets INGDA Apart
Indiana Gateway Digital Academy stands out for its emphasis on collaboration between families and educators. Parents are empowered to play an active role in their child’s education, in contrast to many traditional and digital schools. For instance, while cursive writing isn’t typically taught, Braxton’s mother has been able to incorporate it into his curriculum at home, thanks to the school schedule—which allows greater time for hobbies and learning outside of the classroom.
Since the pandemic, INGDA’s popularity has soared, with class sizes growing from 15-20 students to 40-60. Despite this growth, the school remains committed to fostering a personalized learning environment where students can thrive.
Socialization in a Digital World
One of the family’s initial concerns was how Braxton would socialize in an online school setting. INGDA has addressed this challenge through organized field trips and virtual interactions. Braxton has participated in outings to the Lafayette Art Museum, bowling events, and park day activities, all of which have helped him forge meaningful connections. Today, he enjoys friendships that extend beyond the virtual classroom, including sleepovers, birthday parties, and online gaming sessions with classmates.
Empowering Your Child
If your child is searching for a learning environment that truly understands and meets their unique needs, INGDA could be the solution your family has been hoping for. More than just a school, INGDA provides a nurturing community where students like Braxton not only excel academically but also grow in confidence, resilience, and self-expression.
Through its personalized approach, supportive teachers, and rigorous learning options, INGDA creates opportunities for every child to flourish. Whether it’s helping a shy student find their voice, tailoring education to fit specific needs, or providing the flexibility families need to navigate life’s challenges, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond to make every student feel seen, valued, and capable of achieving their dreams.
Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year opens on February 20th. We’d love to welcome you into our community!
