INGAS/INGDA Mother-Daughter Duo Publishes Book on Conquering Anxiety

Stories & Spotlights
Teacher Spotlight: Nikki Snow on her Second Book

When Indiana Gateway Alternative School (INGAS) teacher Nikki Snow isn’t helping students build life skills like financial literacy, nutrition, wellness and more, she’s helping children through her other passion: writing.

In 2024, Nikki released her first book, “Why Me?”, to help children realize they’re not alone when they feel anxious, isolated, or unsure of who they are. Now, Nikki has teamed up with her daughter, Savannah, to release their new book, “Finley the Fox and Her Fluttery Feelings”

Finley the Fox and Her Fluttery Feelings was inspired by Nikki and Savannah’s own struggles with anxiety, which 11% of children ages 3-17 currently struggle with undiagnosed. They wanted to share this book to help children create a toolkit for coping with difficult emotions. Finley, the titular character, leans on her friends and family to learn how to breathe, calm her mind, and understand that it’s okay to feel nervous.

Savannah, a student at Indiana Gateway Digital Academy (INGDA), has always had a passion for art, and jumped at the opportunity to illustrate alongside her mom’s writing. Throughout the publishing process, Savannah created nearly 30 illustrations for the book, including the front and back covers. Now, she’s inspired to pursue a career in art and illustration.

The duo benefitted from the flexibility of online education while working together on their new book. With the support of their colleagues and peers, Nikki and Savannah were able to ideate, write, illustrate, and publish the book while still being active at work and school.

For interested readers, “Finley the Fox and her Fluttery Feelings” is available for purchase here. Families who are interested in receiving high quality flexible online education from teachers like Nikki can visit ingas.k12.com/ and ingda.k12.com/ to learn more.
