Senior Spotlight: Jazz  

“If you have a dream or passion, set your mind to it and accomplish it,” said Indiana Gateway Digital Academy (INGDA) Valedictorian Jazz as she concluded her speech at INGDA’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 30. Throughout her speech, Jazz recounted the obstacles she overcame to become Valedictorian, the support she had, and words of wisdom for her fellow graduates. 

In Kindergarten, Jazz found out she had Dyslexia. She struggled to complete her schoolwork without individual support from teachers in brick and mortar school. Once she joined INGDA, she was able to meet with her teachers one-on-one to develop skills and implement strategies to help her overcome these hurdles. 

Since then, Jazz started earning straight-As in all her classes.  

Jazz excelled throughout high school at INGDA, where she participated in several clubs and led the National Honors Society while taking dual credit courses, equating to almost a full year of college. Jazz’s journey proves that it doesn’t matter where your story begins and how resilience can lead to success. 

“When they told me I was Valedictorian, I almost cried. I never thought this would happen,” shared Jazz as she remembered receiving the news. “I feel like I never would have grown this much if I was in a brick and mortar school.” 

Now, Jazz has endless possibilities waiting for her after graduation. She plans to attend Indiana University East, majoring in either business or natural sciences. Thanks to the support from her teachers and peers at INGDA, she knows any route she takes will be successful. INGA has, literally, paid off for Jazz, who received scholarships, including a Valedictorian scholarship, that will fully fund her tuition.
